ERIC CLAPTON's DISCOGRAPHY

It's a remarkable thing,..., to have been driven and
all of my life influenced by the work of one man.And even
though I accept that it has always been the keystone of my
music foundation. I still would not regard it as an obsession,
instead, I prefer to think of it as a landmark that I navigate by,
whenever I feel myself going adrift.

I am talking of course, about the work of Robert Johnson.
Up until I heard his music, everything I had ever heard seemed as if it was
dressed up for a shop window somewhere, so that when I heard him for the
first time, it was like singing only for himself, and now and then, maybe
God... At fist it scared me in its intensity, and I could only take it in small
doses. Then I would build up strength and take a little more, but I could never
really get away from it, and in the end, it spoiled me for everything else.

Now after all these years, his music is like my
oldest friend, always in the back of my head, and on the
horizon. It is the finest music I have ever heard. I have always
trusted its purity, and I always will...

Il sort un album en hommage au bluesman américain

Trois ans après Reptile, Eric Clapton comble les attentes de ses fans avec son nouvel opus Me & Mr. Johnson (Reprise records), sublime album offrant une époustouflante interprétation du répertoire de Robert Johnson.

"Avant de découvrir sa musique, tout ce que j'avais pu entendre auparavant m'avait toujours paru un peu surfait. Mais lorsdque j'ai écouté Robert Johnson pour la première fois, j'ai eu le sentiment qu'il ne chantait que pour lui-même et parfois aussi un peut-être pour Dieu." Habité par le respect et la sensibilité d'un disciple jamais servile, Eric Clapton grave avec Me & Mr. Johnson un album pahre qui prendra une palce de choix dans la discographie des amoureux du guitariste anglais.

Jamais depuis son album Unplugged, Eric Clapton n'avait revisité avec autant de magie l'oeuvre du mystérieux guitariste à la voix haut perchée. Entre émotions acoustiques ("Me and the Devil Blues") et fougues électriques ("Love in Vain"), celui que l'on a très tôt surnommé "God" s'approprie, entre tradition et innovation, le sensationnel patrimoine musical de Robert Johnson. Accompagné de sa voix rauque et enivrante et de son toucher unique, Clapton prouve qu'il n'a rien perdu de son feeling et de l'émotion qu'il sait procurer à ses auditeurs. Fianlement cette longue attente est amplement justifiée.

	Depuis From The Cradle,EC ne nous avait pas offert un tel album de Blues. Et quel album, baby. Voilà un album à vendre son âme au diable. Seule fausse note, passe de petit feuillet pour parler de Robert Johnson ni pour présenter les tesxtes des chansons.
	Since From The Cradle, EC hadn't recorded a blues album. And what a blues album. The one you sale your soul to the devil. The only bad point is the lack of booklet to present Robert Johnson and the lyrics of the songs.
