CREAM

After his departure of the BluesBreakers, EC creates Cream with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, two previously Graham Band partners, sword enemies, he had met via John Mayall. Jack Bruce is a determining meeting. He succeeds in taking EC from the yoke of blues and shows him brand new horizons, synonyms of musical liberty.

Cream, the first super-group of the rock'n'roll history, makes its debuts in July 1966 during ht e Windsor Festival and close records their first album "Fresh Cream" . The impact of the first album is huge in the pop-music world. Cream is the first group, which further than teenagers, concerns adults too; and creates a music which can be analyzed with the same rigour as for blues or jazz.

In November 1967, "Disreali Gears" becomes a classical with titles like "Tales of Brave Ulysses", "White Room" et "Sunshine of your love" .

Cream is a two-face group : on records, they are the outcome of the Yardbirds, with reworked blues, progressive pop songs, psychedelic incursions or well squared hits. On stage, Cream is more a rock'n'roll-jazz group, the themes of the songs are only pretexts to long collective improvisations, as witnesses live soundtracks of the double album "Wheels of fire" .

Besides, EC tells : " The principle of Cream was at the beginning songs in which we plan large places to see what we could play on stage, largely rave and improvise".

On September 30, 1966, during a concert of Cream, Jimi Hendrix was the guest star. The two guitar heroes jammed on "Killing Floor" (Howlin' Wolf) until amps spit stars before exploding. It is interesting to note that a few weeks sooner, Jimi Hendrix stopped playing his famous "Hey Joe" during a concert for the American TV, saying it was shit and that he is passing to something more serious from Cream : "Sun Shine Of Your Love".

Cream broke up after an ultimate concert at the Royal Albert Hall on December 26, 1968. Beginning 1969 their last album "Goodbye" is released in which we find the presence of the ex-Beatles George Harrison, under the alias of El Angelo Mysterioso. If it desolates their fans, the separation doesn't seem to affect EC.

" I think Cream has never been to its best. We went to the adventure like that, we gave our first concert without sincerely repeating. We always had something else in mind. We had to do things without being all set, but it was exciting. It was always a mess ! We choke each other, we were never relax and it was hard to live."
