The dark years : 1971-1973 |
Affected by his drug addiction (he was close to sale his
guitars), his love affairs and the death of Duane Allman on October 29, 1971,
EC is at his lowest. But he decided to heal. After 3 years and the help of his
friends, mainly Pet Towsend, he succeeds in lying drug with an electric-acupuncture
treatment. It was a 3 year retreat with rare productions.
"Of course I regret all this time lost in drinking and drugging me. but
I think that without this I won't be where I am today. You know drugs have a
huge impact, and a lot of people have to take some before realizing it wasn't
a good idea. Saying I need some to be creative, it's wrong, even I believed
it at this time. That is a huge trap and the illusion of drug, t make you believe
you can't create without it. They cracks. I am someone very creative with or
without drug."
Beginning 1971, EC participates to the Lillian Russel's Show, and
to the concert for Bengladesh where he plays, among others "While
my guitare gently wheeps". We remember EC making his solo on the original
version of this music, it was in 1968 on the double album "White" of the Beatles.
It was the first official collaboration with George Harrison.
"Yes, it was our first official collaboration. We were already friends from
a while. We were driving in London, he was going to the studio and he asked
me to attend him in order to help him. I accepted without really knowing what
they wanted from me. They showed me the harmonies of the song, I played, it
became really interesting and we had a very good time."
