ERIC CLAPTON SELLS OUT
LEE : "THIS IS AN INTERESTING GUITAR. I originally had it down as an L48, but Richard's done some research on it and reckons it's actually a transitional ES 125. It's the same guitar that BB King used to use, and it could actually be the Holy Grail... "
RICHARD : "THIS GUITAR REPLACED the ESIOO and this example comes from around 1949. As Lee mentions, it's exactly the same model that King is photographed at radio station WZIA in Memphis with, and playing live. The pickup is interesting too, because it's a non-adjustable P90 with a plastic cover bent over the top and attached by two screws; almost like a Heath Robinson forebear of the 'dog-eared' P90 that came later. It's the real transition between the two. But this is a lovely tie-in with Eric, since he was such a fan of BB King and it's a great piece of electric guitar history, as it was the basic economy model."
