ERIC CLAPTON SELLS OUT
LEE : "ERIC BOUGHT TWO OF THESE Martin 12-strings for a song called Motherless Child, not to be confused with Motherless Children. For the first week of the tour, every night at least two strings would go in the first four bars. When you look at that guitar, the sweep of the pick goes from the top, right round to the bottom. The only way I could get round it was to use heavier strings, but he liked the gauge we were using. I went up one on the treble strings, which he didn't mind, and then I realized it was the picks that were doing it. He was shredding the picks in the first few strokes and they were slicing the strings. So I went to a Jim Dunlop pick, of the same gauge but a different material - Tortex, which was softer and didn't shred - and that solved the problem."
