ERIC CLAPTON SELLS OUT

D'ANGELICO EXEL 1930s

Estimate $30,000

LEE : "THERE ARE A COUPLE OF D'ANGELICOS in the auction. One of them I've had restored, although it doesrft particularly look like anything's been done to it - a few cracks repaired and so on. The work was done by a guy called TJ Thompson from Boston; one of the most incredible acoustic guitar restorers ever."

RICHARD : "IT'S VERY HARD TO SPECIFICALLY DATE THESE guitars, because the ledgers aren't particularly clear, but I reckon they're between 1933 and 1935. They've both got different headstock inlays and one has had a cutaway added at a later date. They both sound lovely, with tons of sustain.

D'Angelico is regarded as perhaps the master of the archtop guitar in this century."
