ERIC CLAPTON SELLS OUT

FENDER TELECASTER 1952

Estimate $12,000-$18,000

LEE : "THIS ONE'S A GREAT 1952 Tele and Eric has used it on stage a fair bit; particularly I think at Crystal Palace with Freddie King. It's a beautiful guitar and was a gift from Carl Radle, the bass player in Derek And The Dominos. There's another Tele, a'67 with a humbucker in it that was a gift from Virginia Lohle from Starfile (the photo agency who supplied the pics of Eric here). And there's a white one too, which I think was used on'From The Cradle'. Eric will often fancy playing something different in the studio and will ask me to bring in a Tele or something."

RICHARD : "ERIC SAID,'L DON'T THINK of the Tele as being particularly associated with me, although I've always liked them as guitars'. I think he liked them in the studio, rather than as a stage instrument. He used this guitar quite a lot in the'70s and, as Lee points out, most notably at Crystal Palace. It's been refinished, but it's got the nice trademark smoker's burn on the headstock."
